2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 vs. 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Comparison

The age-old rivalry between the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang will probably forever rage on, but there’s nothing like comparing the two especially in their most modern versions. This review over at Motor Trend  goes into depth comparing the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R.

Neither car is anything like its past counterparts, being more agile and track focused than any past pony/muscle car, but as always both of these vehicles are not a complete like-for-like comparison. For one, the Shelby is a naturally aspirated 5.2 L V8 with 526 hp while the Camaro is a 6.2 L supercharged V8 producing 650 hp. However, both vehicles are the top performers from both manufacturers, so the comparison is at least a good side-by-side from the best of what both can offer.

The comparison isn’t just about specifications, but also a straight line and track test to see how these modern pony cars cope with a winding track. We won’t give away any spoilers here for which car ultimately came out on top from the tests, but just to say it doesn’t matter which side your preferences are on, both are very capable pony cars with not much in it to win it.
