2017 Challenger GT Announced: 1st 2 Door Muscle Car With AWD
By David Ashton
The American car manufacturer Dodge has announced their 2017 all-wheel-drive (AWD) Challenger GT which will be the first American muscle car featuring this system.
We mentioned in past articles the possibility of Dodge releasing an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system but the specifications were unclear at the time.
Although many would like the full power of the Hellcat engine or a Hemi, the powertrain looks like a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine with 305bhp and 268 pound-feet of torque.
This is connected via an eight speed automatic transmission which runs to all four wheels borrowed from the Dodge Charger.
A paddle shift will be incorporated under sports mode for keeping the revs high and holding the gears for longer.
An active transfer case will be used for sending extra torque to the front wheels when needed. In regular driving mode all power will then go to the rear wheels.
The stability control has three modes, with a fully off mode to allow drifting in snow.
A Super Track Pak button will be available that accesses the performance pages and launch control settings, such as the 0-60mph time, reaction time, G force and lap times.
The EPA says the GT can cover 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The GT model will also feature 19 inch aluminium wheels with possibly 235/55R-19 tires.
Other features will include nappa leather interior, heated seats and steering wheel and the usual GT goodies.
A GT interior package is available at $995 with performance seats, more speakers and more audio power.
Production is hoped to start in January 2017, with the first being delivered in the first quarter of 2017, at $34,490.
