When it comes to Mustangs having a Shelby or GT500 in the name is the top of the heap. The GT500 was first released in 1967 with a 428cu (7.0L) V8 with the ‘KR’ version first getting the Cobra Jet engine. The car was restyled in 1969 to the look you see here.
This example has had a full rotisserie restoration and given a seal of approval taken to a MCA National Show to be judged by the head of MCA Shelby/SAAC and a Marti Report. Originally built on June 5, 1969 five days ahead of schedule, the car has been off the road since 1972, being restored by it’s now forth owner. If you want to find out more about its restoration, the present owner documents it’s all very well on his website here.
As you would expect for the asking price the car has all original parts, with everything seemingly rebuilt from the ground up. So, at this level and expect everything to be completely spotless and you can be as picky as you like with the details. The ad. even gives some of the parts which are date coded.
There were 1,536 GT500 Fastbacks producing 1969, with 304 made in Candy Apple Red, 229 with this paint/trim code, 448 with this engine and transmission combo and 1,363 with Traction Lok differential. There are examples online of 1969 Gt500’s going for $200k+. This one is pretty low mileage and says that it is asking for $120K. Maybe a tidy profit.
