1960s Black License Plates, Re-Made By Prisoners

The California Department of Motor Vehicles have reissued these cool looking black license plates with yellow lettering for the first time since the 1960s.
‘You can put the plates on any car or vehicle you want. It doesn’t matter,’ said DMV spokeswoman Jessica Gonzales.

20,000 orders have been placed up to now the retro 60s plate, 55% of those being ordered for personalized plates.
It was possible to buy these plates up to now from other sources, but it was quite a chore to get them cleared. Now the process should be far easier.

California has arguably the largest amount of classic muscle cars of all states, so it’s good the authorities are giving back to the classic car community.
