The video below says that muscle cars are increasingly rare in today’s market with most buyers these days going for either Compacts and/or SUV’s. This on top of vehicles in general being pushed towards being the most fuel-efficient, compounds the fact that high displacement vehicles are not as popular as they used to. However, the likes of Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge are still paving the way in this area.

Dodge Challenger sales have been rising steadily from 2008 – 2015 and relatively steady since then. If Ford the stop building most of their vehicle lines, the Mustang will still take pride of place. Mustangs and Camaros have evolved into potent, track ready machines, as competitive as the rest of the sports market.

The Dodge Challenger Hellcat with 707 hp, 0-60mph in 3.4 secs., is the closest to old school muscle car. it may be optimised for the dragstrip going in straight lines, but these days it can take a corner! Ok, feel economy isn’t the best at 13mpg around town and 22 mpg on the highway, but you don’t buy this thing for its fuel consumption, that’s last on the list. Fuel consumption can seem like a primary factor. However, muscle cars are still in the frame (which means those who are buying into the vehicles don’t drive them the same lengths as a lower value, and usually can afford whatever gas is put into the things.

So what is the takeaway from this video clip? Muscle cars have always been a niche part of the whole automotive market. There are far less makes and models around now than in the classic years of the late 1960s 1970s, but Americana muscle cars and that even includes the Australian equivalent build muscle machines, will always strike a chord with those who want the rumble of a V8 and all the great attributes that go along with this.
