Two Men Killed During Dodge Challenger Hellcat Airport Test Drive
By Dave Ashton
This story has started to flood the Internet of two men in their 70’s being killed during a test drive in a 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The incident took place at Central Colorado Regional Airport, Buena Vista, Colorado.
According to the Denver Post the two men had permission to speed test the Hellcat down the 8,300ft. runway, but for some un-apparent reason the B5 Challenger veered off the runway for 314 feet and went airborne, flipping multiple times. The car was found 650 feet down the south end of the airport runway where County sheriffs pronounce both men dead at the scene.
There are no other details about the vehicle in question and it can only be summarised at this point that the incident was a freak accident. Skid marks were found at the end of the runway which may indicate that the driver tried to correct and control the vehicle until its final moments.
There will be obvious comparisons between high-powered vehicles and potential incidents, but this shouldn’t be a reflection on the Dodge Challenger hellcat itself as far as reports go at present, the car was tested with permission and on a straight empty runway.
