Top 5 Most Iconic Muscle Cars In Movie History
By Dave Ashton
Classic era muscle cars are still used today in TV and movies due to their aura of style and power as seen recently in the Fast and Furious franchise and the Transformers movies. Below are some of the most standout muscle cars.
There are obviously so many to choose from and arguments will abound forever for which actually are the top five, but we had to pick some, so here goes….
5. 1968 Ford Mustang GT
The Mustang in the classic movie Bullitt driven through the streets of San Francisco by Steve McQueen, is probably one of the all-time movie classic car chases. The Mustang was up against a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, but it’s the ’68 Mustang which will be forever remembered.
4. 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440
This car was featured in the movie Vanishing Point and also honoured in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, but it’s the first movie that cemented the cars legendary status.
3. 1967 Mustang Fastback Eleanor
Featured in the remake movie Gone in 60 Seconds, this custom 1967 Mustang Fastback Eleanor which was driven by Nicholas Cage may not be as iconic as the original movie, but the 1967 Mustang seems to be a bigger hit than the original vehicle with many reproductions out on the market. The first movie may be more iconic, but the remake definitely cemented the ’67 Mustang in everyone’s minds.
2. 1976 Chevrolet Camaro
The Transformers movie franchise has done wonders for the Camaro, but it was the first instalment that gave you the battered 1976 Chevrolet Camaro of Bumblebee. Shia LeBeouf may have got an upgrade to a modern Camaro halfway through the film, but it’s the original ’76 Camaro that paves the way for the rest of the movie.
1. 1970 Dodge Charger R/T
The Fast and the Furious franchise has spread the word about muscle cars arguably wider than any other set of movies. The 1970 Dodge Charger R/T is now synonymous with Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Torreto with its huge supercharger. The franchise is giving no signs of slowing down, which means that for every instalment the Dodge Charger will get a wider and wider audience.
