Best Muscle Cars
Todays V8’s: Do they Match The heights Of The 60s?
The seed idea for this article was born out of compiling the best V8 engines and/or muscle cars of 2015.
We found quite a few of these already but one such rundown named their list as ’10 Best V8 Muscle Cars for 2015′ which listed everything from German vehicles, to the obvious Detroit iron and everything in between that housed a V8.
Can they be called muscle cars or cars with muscle is really one debate, while the best cars around today being produced that have a V8 is another.
Yes, the moniker of muscle car has been borrowed and slapped against anything that possible has some grunt and performance over the years. There’s really no problem there, it should be taken as more of a tribute to one of the greatest eras of cars by calling groups of cars ‘ones with muscle.’
So in accordance with strict standards, we have listed those cars that come from the Heritage of ‘muscle cars’ and also have a V8 engine, not one or the other.
In reality, there are precious few true muscle cars now than they were in the golden age of the late 60s and 70s, but they are still shining examples of what their grandfathers achieved and are still renowned for.
2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
The Dodge Challenger was one of the most iconic vehicles of the muscle car era, so it’s great to know the latest incarnations are still flying the flag.
The 2015 Hellcat is good for 707 horsepower with 650 lb-ft of torque.
The car comes with standard launch control system and a multi-stage stability control program. Buyers can choose between either an 8 speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
Good for 0 to 60-mph in 3.7 secs.
Grandfather would be proud!
2015 Ford Mustang GT
The one thing the Mustangs needed for years, they has now got, independent rear suspension, which has turned the old pony back into a thoroughbred.
A 5.0-liter V8 engine is the obvious engine choice to go for with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Good for 435HP and 400 lb-ft of torque.
0 to 60-mph in 4.4 seconds and possibly one of the most beautiful cars around.
2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
Since the first generation of Camaro in the 60s, the car has always been a favorite in all editions. 50 years later it is still revered as one of the classic muscle cars.
The modern Camaro Z/28 has a more track-ready package, making it far more lightweight than the rest of the line.
A 7.0L, V-8 engine produces 505 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque.
A six-speed manual is the only gearbox offered with 4.0 seconds to hit 60-mph.
2015 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe
This may be the last of the Cadillac CTS-V coupes, so its last dance had better be a good one. luckily, it is..
The modern Caddy has a supercharged 6.2L V8 with 556HP and 551 lb-ft of torque.
A six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission are the options.
0 to 60-mph in 4.3 seconds.
Hennessey Performance, the renowned tuners from Texas, have taken the 2015 Cadillac in good muscle car style and turned it into a 1226 hp and 1,109 lb-ft of torque beast like you see here.
There are other options like the Equus bass 770 which are probably the nearest to old school muscle, but we wanted to just show what was produced by the main muscle car manufacturers rather than the smaller production outfits.
As the interest in muscle cars continues to grow, the main manufacturers may slowly start to release some of the more popular muscle cars from back in the day.
There are already third-party parts suppliers who can provide body kits to turn something like a modern Camaro or Mustang into a Plymouth Superbird, Dodge Daytona or other flavors of classic muscle car not currently available.
Some of these aftermarket enhancements look incredible, but we will still have to wait for the main manufacturers to think about producing these for real.
