The World’s Rarest Camaro Z/28: A Hemi-Crossram 302!

You are not imagining things here, this is a Camaro Z/28 with an experimental Hemi engine.

The hemi head powered Camaro was built in 1968 as a response to Ford’s 302 engine program. Strictly a prototype carrying Chevrolets engineering’s O numbers, it has a wealth of bespoke or custom parts.

This Camaro Z/28 is a JL-8 X33 in Cortes silver color, black standard interior, tinted glass, spoilers, console with console gauges and dash tach, Rosewood steering wheel and 3:73 posi. 4 speed transmission.
Onto the engine – the only complete factory 302 all aluminum block, with custom heads, intake and water pump, hemi-head cross ram engine.
2 x 4 barrel carbs and as the video asks how much horsepower does this thing have? The answer, they probably didn’t tell you in the day and you don’t want to put something as precious as this on a dyno.

Unfortunately, GM cut all the racing engine support, which meant this engine was never developed or was seen in action. The potential of the engine can only be imagined.

The car has had a freshen up over the years, like in 2006 where the exterior and fuel system was cleaned up and the fuel tank replaced.
The engine was also stripped down by TRECO in Cumming, Georgia, but with no exact replacement parts, things like a custom gasket had to be made.

The car has been a feature in many a magazine over the years and will stand as one of those cars or at least engines, that could have been….

The Camaro is Currently on display at Floyd Garrett’s Muscle Car Museum, Sevierville TN.
