The Best Muscle Cars To Watch From Scottsdale 2016
From January 23rd – Tuesday, January 26th, Scottsdale, AZ 85255, Russo and Steele will be holding one of its infamous auctions, this time with a range of incredibly rare muscle cars.
As per usual with these type of auctions, these are the rarest and most expensive of their kind, show cars or investment-grade material only.
Here are some of the standout muscle cars from the auction.
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Double COPO Coupe
Featuring both COPO 9561 and COPO 9737 options, this COPO (Corporate Office Production Order) has a 425-horsepower L72 427 engine, based on a four-bolt main block with 11:1 compression, forged aluminum pistons, a wild solid camshaft, forged steel crank, 780 CFM Holley carburetor, aluminum intake, chrome valve covers, and single-point aluminum distributor. Other features included the RPO ZL-2 special ducted hood, RPO V48 HD radiator, and RPO F41 high-performance suspension including 12-bolt differential, multi-leaf rear springs, and special HD 4.10 Positraction rear end.
Factory-finished in very rare Garnet Red paint.
1969 Ford Torino GT Richard Petty 428 Cobra Jet
Only Richard Petty car can have these colors – Petty Blue over Blue vinyl interior.
1 of ONLY 5 ever produced. In 1969 Ford held a sweepstakes in which the winners would receive one of these 428 Cobra Jet Torinos, delivered to their doorstep by Richard Petty himself.
Approximately 200 of these promotional Torinos were built but only five were optioned with the 428 Cobra Jet V8.
The other 195 were built with the smaller 351 engine and were available at Ford dealerships across the country. It’s believed that Richard Petty now owns two of the five 428 cars.

Options from the factory include the MATCHING NUMBERS 428 Cobra Jet V8 & column shift C-6 Automatic transmission, 3.25 conventional rear axle, power steering, AM radio, and white sidewall tires. Also featuring; Cobra Jet hood scoop, hood pins, front/rear bench seat, dual exit exhaust system, and Ford floor mats.
1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 KK 2029
1 of only 859 Boss 429s produced in 1969.
Dyno-tested at 471.7 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque, finished in Candy Apple Red over Black Clarion Knit/Vinyl bucket seats, and equipped with 3.91:1 Traction-Lok rear axle and 4-speed manual transmission, Visibility Group, power steering, console, power front disc brakes, AM radio, Interior Decor Group, Deluxe belts, color-keyed racing mirrors, and Competition Suspension.
1966 AMC AMX Prototype Ramble Seat
This is a great one for you AMC AMX fans out there.
These prototypes are usually produced for marketing or testing purposes. This means they are ultra-limited numbers, rarely built for the street and very few survive.
Dubbed “The Plastic Prototype,” this 1966 AMC AMX Prototype was debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in February 1966, with a slick fastback design and a spectacular rumble seat, referred to as the “Rambleseat.”
Believed to be one of two prototypes used for testing at the AMC proving grounds, 343 CI V-8 engine, Dual exhaust, 4-speed manual transmission.
A truly unique vehicle.
