Small Tire Hero Mustang Mike Modeste Sadly Passes Away.
By David Ashton
It is a sad day for small tire racing and the rest of the drag race world as ‘Mustang Mike’ Mike Modeste sadly, passes away at the age of 45.
The Brooklyn-based racer cemented his name being the first African-American national series champion with his first championship in the NSCA in 2000. He then went on to win in 2003, 2004 and 2007.
He was also the fourth member of the six second quarter-mile radial club.
Modeste raced around the large radial classes until he found a home in the Limited Drag Radial (LDR) category.
He spent time with the Bill Miller Enterprises-sponsored NHRA Top Fuel dragster team and spent time in Bahrain and Qatar as a mechanic and tuner.
Always a guy with a smile on his face, he had a willingness to help others, along with pushing himself to his best.
We send our condolences to Mike’s family, friends, fans on all those who were lucky enough to meet Mike.
