The Patina Look Is Still ‘In’
By Mark Weisseg
I know this because I own a Chevrolet truck from the 1940’s with a real Patina. Of course guys try to make patina and clear coat it but mine was and is real. This cool old Ford was at our show last Friday night. He said he was inspired by me and a few others that kept the original look. The only mistake this cat made was something he put on his rear window in decal form. It read, ” Field Find.”
A Patina is – ‘Patina (/’pæt?n?/ or /p?’ti?n?/) is a thin layer that variously forms on the surface of stone; on copper, bronze and similar metals (tarnish produced by oxidation or other chemical processes); on wooden furniture (sheen produced by age, wear, and polishing); or any such acquired change of a surface through age and …
This type of look may seem strange, but it immediately implies a vehicle that has had some life. It’s been some where, its done things. It’s basically seen some action.
Well, we all figure that but take off points for declaring the obvious. Let the spectators use their imaginations as to where and how you got this truck. The guy has also added a few items here and there and I warned him it was moving toward getting away from the original theme. Either it is original or it’s not. We all know once you change it the game is over. Remember, only a virgin once theme.
It was and is a cool truck. I had an old Ford truck at one point and I really liked it. I sold it (big mistake) to a guy in Wisconsin that wanted to put it in front of his business as a feature to his profession. I never asked this guy where he found this truck as I ran out of time that night. I was being pulled in several different directions and will get back to him soon enough. In the meantime it was good to see another old truck in a show filled with Camaros, Corvettes, and Chevelles. Truckers get it and I hope he stays true to his roots on this one keeps the Patina.
