NHRA Big Chief Justin Shearer Aims For The Pontiac 1/4 Mile Record
By Simon Cheetham
This seems like the NHRA is hotting up with Big Chief Justin Shearer looking to make his Crowmod the fastest around.
As you can see in this video, Big Chief has been doing some great passes at Gateway Motorsports Park.
The first pass came in 6.420 seconds at 2 to 3.65 mph, but did suffer from a number of issues, such as the chute not deploying.
“It was so much money and work in the 100 degree heat. NHRA legal 37psi boost, heavy as a pig and just as ugly. First 1/4 pass so many issues. We can’t even believe it went 223.6mph. Then the chutes didn’t deploy. Almost made a trip into the sand traps.” – Justin ‘Big Chief‘ Shearer.
All this is so he can go for the Pontiac record, which at present he is only 0.15 seconds and 5mph from Butler’s Pontiac record.
He already holds the record for the eighth manual pass set at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion III where he ran 4.03 seconds at 185mph on drag radials.
With the Crowmod’s Butler 482ci Pontiac motor and a pair of Precision Gen2 Pro Mod 88mm turbochargers, he at least has the basis to set a record time.
