Muscle Cars Race At Goodwood Festival Of Speed
By Dave Ashton
The Goodwood Festival Of Speed is a very British affair held at the Goodwood’s 12,000 acre estate every year and features various events including a huge variety of vintage vehicles. Many are very rare and many expensive.
As you would expect, many of the vehicles taking part are of European origin, but there are also American V8 types in the mix, some of the most popular being AC Cobras. The beauty here is seeing completely raw, barebones vehicles race each other as they would have done back in the day. In some respects more sedate a race, but also more thrilling as you’ll see below with the odd crash, smash and wheels falling off.
Past years have seen the ‘Vee-Power Sunday – The Americans‘ and like in the highlight video below a Mercury Cyclone showing how it can spin-off just as well as a Jaguar E type. In many ways it’s interesting to see how vintage muscle cars goe up against some of the European classics in a race. With such raw mechanicals, much is down to driving skill while trying to win a race not total an ultra expensive classic. Afterwards, you can even enjoy a nice cup of tea and cucumber sandwich.
There are plenty of unique and interesting cars on show including the Sadler Chevrolet Mk3 as below. To get a hint of the full festival, check out some of the videos below.
