Muscle Car Auction Season: The Fun And Tricks Of The Auction
By Mark Weisseg
Why show a picture of a Challenger in the snow at this time of year? mainly to inspire you to get as much driving in as possible, as this scene quickly comes back around. But this post is really about getting involved with the car auctions.
When I was in Amelia Island they were starting to ready themselves for that auction that week. Fancy hotels, big rigs rolling into the Omni and guests pouring in from the Jacksonville Florida airport. This was a week and a half from the event and the rigs were parked along A1A waiting their turn to get in and unload. I wish I could have stayed another week to join in on the fun but it was not meant to be this year.
Auctions are lively events and I encourage you to go to one and see it for your self. It’s noisy, it’s crowded and all the cars and toys there will make you believe you are in heaven. It is an event all to itself and I always enjoy going. But, be careful and be forewarned that it is easy to fall victim to newbie reactions. That is you are an easy target to the folks that are experienced auction people and travel around the country buying, selling, and trading cars.
Like any fast-paced buying event, you have to be on your toes at all times. Therefore, it’s a good idea to go along to one of two just to check out the environment and get a feel for the pace of things. How to bid, how to spot that stand out car and all the other little idiosyncrasies that work at a car auction. Emotions run high at these events, so be prepared.
So, when you go to auction please take a deep breath and be careful. Observe and watch for a while and use your noodle. Could a 70 Cuda really never seen snow? Is that really possible? It’s your money so be alert my friends.
