1968 Mercury Cougar GT-E
Engine: 427 cu in (7.0 L) FE V8
Transmission: C-6 Merc-O-Matic
3.50 standard-axle ratio, 9 inch rear end.
Built between 1967 and 1997, then 1999 to 2002, the Mercury Cougar has had a fine history as a quality muscle car.
This example is a first-generation, (1967–1970) which came in either a base model or XR-7.
Engines ranged from a 289 CU, up to a 427cu.
the 1968 model featured federally-mandated side marker lights and front outboard shoulder belts. A “Tilt-Away” steering wheel appeared along with the option of a factory installed electric sunroof.
Factory options on this example include wide oval radial tires, power disc brakes, power steering, AM/FM radio, decor interior group and styled steel wheels.
The factory GT-E package includes blacked-out front headlamp cover, special front trim, blacked-out taillight bezels, special extruded aluminum-body side moldings.
