The George ‘Joie’ Chitwood Stunt Show

If you are older than 35 you might remember this. The George ‘Joie‘ Chitwood racing and stunt show. It’s one of those shows that was on the Wide World Of Sports back in the day.

Joie and team would do these crazy stunts and amaze the audience. They did the figure eight racing which was a nail biter, drive a car on two wheels and then do stunts like this. Everyone always thought death was right around the corner for these dare Devils but they never seemed to wreck. They did things with normal looking cars we all dreamed of doing.

Standout performances include Joie setting a world record driving a Chevrolet Chevette 5.6 miles on two wheels and apparently Evil Knievel was inspired to become a stunt driver after watching the show. he was a regular stuntman for Hollywood and even had some minor roles, like in the 1950 movie To Please a Lady.

Today, YouTube is the only place I know to see the action. It was a great way to spend an afternoon watching dare evils like this or a crazy guy on a motor cycle jumping school buses. Oh, those were the days man…..
