My Ford Capri V6 Muscle By Jason Turrell
This Reader’s Ride submission was a pleasant and unexpected surprise, being a British submission from a Ford Capri.
The Ford Capri was produced from 1969 to 1986, originally designed by Philip T Clark, one of the designers of the original Ford Mustang.
The Capri was intended to be a Ford Mustang for the European market and although not a strict muscle car, it is the closest you could argue to being a muscle car for the Europeans.
The best engines were the 3.1 L Essex V6 or the first-generation 5.0 L Windsor V8, with the 1.6L and 2.0L variants being the most popular. The highest trim levels were in the ‘Ghia’ models with the last generation 2.8L injection model, being one of the last, most prized editions.
They didn’t have the power or performance of their US equivalents, but the Capri adopted the aesthetics of a muscle car and were renowned for being just as tail happy, especially with most powerful engine types.
Just like Vintage American muscle cars, the Ford Capri is now a collectors item, with the rarest examples fetching handsome sums.
‘My Ford Capri 3ltr v6 built for racing, now road ready.’
