Find Of The Day: 1971 Camaro Split Bumper
By Dave Ashton
VIN: 12487NOR
Engine: 350ci.
Current bid: $3,900.00
This second-generation 1971 Chevrolet Camaro is currently available on eBay as a barn find, with a just about running engine but has an ‘inoperable’ automatic transmission with the original four-speed in the trunk. Looks wise, I personally prefer the first-generation models, as they seemed more of an integrated design, but like any vehicle, this is subjective and down to personal preference. 71 to 72 models are just as worthy as collectables in the right hands.
Being a barn find it has its fair share of rust throughout the car and if you look closely at the rear quarters, there has been a good deal of filler additive over the years. The interior which is more or less complete, is very ragged as you would expect for a barn find, but at least there’s everything here for a complete restoration.
The current owner is well aware of the transmission swap out and the current one non-functioning, but at least the original is in the trunk, so you do at least have the choice of two. The engine is said to run and does have a decent Edelbrock carb. in place.
So, the biggest downside here is probably the body shell rust and from the images, it’s not clear how deep the rust actually goes. however, that’s probably enough here to get going on a good restoration to bring this old pony back to life. What do you guys think?
