Find Of The Day: 1970 Ford Torino GT 429
By David Ashton
This family kept 429 Torino GT seems to have been stored for 35 years, a US Air Force officer’s car and at a reasonable price.
Being military owned, you would expect this vehicle to be kept in reasonable condition, even when stored away for such a long time, which seems to be the case here.
The car is matching numbers and is said to start up straight away, but as with any vehicle stored for a long time, the engine will need a thorough overhaul.
The exterior is in reasonable shape, but does have rust areas, with the ad. saying, ‘The rear lower quarters will need replacement as well as driver side trunk panel.’ Also, quite a few of those Medium Gold Metallic paint panels look a bit bruised and battered, which will need to be addressed. If you check out the images at the bottom of the panels, the rust has shot through the paint work, meaning it will need to be stripped back to get it in glowing condition again.
The interior looks in the best shape here with the Ginger Knit Vinyl looking okay, but the driver’s seat looks like it needs to be reupholstered. The rest of the interior looks reasonable, considering its length of storage.
The numbers matching powertrain of the 429 will give the most pleasure here and as everything seems to be original apart from the hubcaps, you could almost get away with driving this a little before full restoration begins.
our current bid of $7500, with five days to go, there is enough here in reasonable shape to justify the price.
