Find Of The Day: 1970 Chevrolet Impala
By David Ashton
When it comes to Chevy Impalas, it’s usually the early 60s models that are the most sought-after, but if you find a decent example, any Impala is worth its salt.
This example has been stored away since 1981 and considering its long hibernation period, it’s still in reasonable condition.
The exterior really does look like it’s been taken care of over the years, with a convertible top being replaced, but as with any ragtop it does have a few problems that need addressing. The old top comes with a car if that could be made use of.
Some of the chrome trim has been put in the back seat, but the rest of the car looks in great shape.
The interior would also look really good if it wasn’t for the driver’s seat needing re-upholstering and the shabby carpets. Everything else seems to be in place and in reasonable condition considering its storage age.
The rest of the burgundy interior could do with a complete cleanup before evaluating.
The engine bay houses a 400 V8, which is said to run with only 51,000 miles on the clock. There doesn’t seem to be any overly rusted parts here and with an automatic shifter, this would make a great summer cruiser.
At a current bid of $5,112 with 4 1/2 days to go, this will be an ideal vehicle for those who don’t want an extensive restoration project and want a vehicle that at least drives and can be worked on as you go along.
The appeal of it being numbers matching and being a solid and reasonably rust free vehicle means you don’t have to break the bank to have a classic on your hands.
