The Dodge’s Scat Pack: A Brief History Of This Muscle Car Machine
By David Ashton
The 2016 and 2017 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack is a fantastic addition to the Dodge lineup which harks back to the 60s, giving drivers more muscle for their money.
The 2016 model, which features a 6.4L Hemi V8 with 485Hp, stiffened suspension, huge brakes, louder exhaust, Shaker intake and the Super Track Pak package, which is ideal as either a cruiser or dragstrip monster.
This addition to the Dodge line up came about in the late 60s where the rivalry between the big three was at its highest.
To give all the you Mopar is the time umbrella branding, the Ross Roy Ad Agency came up with the idea of the ‘Scat Pack’ which was a play on the Sinatra Rat Pack of the time.
Loyal Ccat Pack owners would receive a quarterly newsletter, wallet card, bumper sticker, jacket patch and racing guide for their entry into the club.
The Scat Pack covered most of Dodges range at the time, which included the Charger Daytona and the Dodge Challenger and at the end the Dodge Demon 340.
Arguably, this also was formed, Plymouth’s ‘Rapid Transit System’ which included their barracuda, GTX, Superbird, duster 340 and the Road Runner to have their own extensive options list.
Now the Scat Pack is back and in full force and for those who remember the early days, it’s a glimpse into the options that could make your regular muscle car into more of a street daemon.
