Checking Out Small but Mighty Cars?
By Mark Weisseg
A Pinto, a slant six and a Karman Ghia were some of the latest entries into our latest car show.
Clearly not fast muscle cars but strangely popular with the crowds.
Let’s be honest. The Pinto was a popular car back in the day due to its low fuel consumption. The Ghia was to be a sports car from VW but never caught on. The Slant six may go down as the best all around best engine for Mopar but without much power. Still, the crowds love them. Memories are brought back. Seems everyone had one or knew someone that did. In my case my brother had a Pinto he purposely beat the hell out of but could not kill it.
The Ghia was something my Uncle owned, and my brother and Father both had the 225 Slant six engines. So, in a day where we discuss crate engines and horsepower there is still room for the weak and timid.
Not many of the Pintos or Ghias survive today but the slant six does live on. It’s refreshing to see these little hamsters at the shows and the crowds they seem to gather.
Long live the weak and timid!
