Aviar Motors Electric 1967 Mustang
By Dave Ashton
Russian electric vehicle start-up Aviar Motors have used a 1967 Mustang fastback to create their first EV high-performance offering with a very Tesla-like interior.
The Mustang is called R67 and is said to be, ‘the first electric muscle car with incredible acceleration dynamics and a high level of comfort.’ A 100 kWh battery pack power is fitted inside an aluminium and carbon fiber chassis, with a 1967 Mustang fastback exterior.
The Powerpack will equate to 840 hp, with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of just 2.2 seconds. It also has a range of 507 km. The car will also be all wheel drive, with two electric motors providing the power. The interior is clearly influenced by the Tesla Model S, in both looks and functionality with the whole sensor suite having driver assistance capabilities along with safety and comfort. The car will also have forged alloy wheels and an antiwing spoiler which automatically extends at 75 mph (120 km/h) or when switching to Sport and Race modes.
A vertical touchscreen resides in the middle of the dashboard, alongside an extremely luxurious interior. The R67 clearly mixes the classic good looks of a vintage pony car with a modern powertrain. Clearly, any type of exterior could have been used but the choice of a 1967 Mustang shows how the vintage and the modern can so seamlessly mix. As the website says, ‘classic proportions of American coupes, combined with modern aerodynamic styling.’
This could be the way for not just performance EVs, but the whole breed in general. Pony and muscle car design simply displays performance and the vintage styling will definitely be a welcome change to the very homogenised designs we have today.
