The World’s Most Popular Cars

There will always be a ‘most popular’ in the car world and its great news when your favorite cars is at the top.

According to stuff.co.nz , the top runners are American cars in the form of the Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro and The Chevy Corvette.
this is based on sales alone, but to be honest, I don’t care, they have our favourite cars at the top and that’s all that matters in this case, especially when other cars from around the world are listed.

FORD MUSTANG

First Produced: 1964, Total sold: 10 Million.
Love it or hate it, the Ford Mustang has been around since 1964 and has been popular ever since.
New Zealand, Australia and Europe now have their own right-hand drive versions which has been flying out of showrooms. Sales figures have beaten most of the competition and I think even Ford are a little surprised by how successful the Mustang is becoming in these markets.
The 2016 model has a 5L V8 engine and is ensuring that special something of muscle and pony car magic is spread to the world.
You never know, we could be writing something similar in another 50 years.

CHEVROLET CAMARO

First produced: 1967, Total sold: 5 Million.
The Camaro may not have sold as many units as the Mustang, but the model is valued just as much.
It is come and gone over the years, but came back strong in 2010, helped by ‘the Transformers’ movies franchise and the facts that it was an incredible looking car with great performance.
The current generation has a 6.2 L V8 and performance figures that rival and even beat the European and Japanese counterparts.

CHEVROLET CORVETTE

First produced: 1953, Total sold: 1.5 Million.
It’s strictly a sports car, but you can’t get any more iconic than the Corvette.
The official car of NASA astronauts back in the day, renowned throughout the world, the Corvette still goes from strength to strength with amazing looks and performance.
2016 model has a 6.2L V8, as per the Camaro and now with models such as the ZL-1, it’s knocking on the door of supercar territory for sports car prices.

Considering the three above are against solid starters such as the Mazda MX-5 and Porsche 911, the American three win hands down.
