What If’s: Might GM Build New Versions Of The Nova And Chevelle?

Since the release of the Camaro back in 2009 and models such as the 1LE, ZL1 and Z/28, could other golden era muscle cars see a comeback from GM?

This is a question posed over at superchevy.com and it’s not an uncommon theme when you think about modern muscle cars.
The test data is in and shows that the public are loving modern muscle cars. The Dodge Challenger and Charger, the Mustang, the Camaro, even the Corvette is bringing attention back, even though it is strictly a sports car.

It must be done right.
It’s a bit like a remake of a classic film. Much thought needs to be put into the final product, as the slightest wrong move can make a modern classic into a modern dud.
Take the Dodge Dart. A respectable muscle car in its day. Brought back as a regular compact vehicle, it had to compete with the masses and simply…. didn’t.

You could argue the Nova and the Chevelle where more iconic than the Dodge Dart, but if done right, a modern Nova and Chevelle would be quite a sight.
The iconic platforms of the ’67, ’68 Nova and 1970 Chevelle make great daydreaming as modern vehicles. I’m already dreaming of a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 as a modern car. For now at least, it has to stay that way.

Currently, all the stars are aligned for a come back for these models, but it’s up to GM to decide if this is viable.
Using the film analogy, think about the X-Men films. Will the public at large love a bunch of characters like these? Bang, 16 years later, they are still more popular than ever as decades of fans come back to the fold and the new fans want more and more.
I’m sure Wolverine would love a new Nova…..
