1969 Pontiac Trans Am Engineering Prototype Test Car #9723

By  |

Developed first week of July 1969 by GM Executives, as a "What If" scenario just in case the new 1970 F Bodys were not able to reach production and they had to use the same F body's from 1969 for 1970 model year. The 1969 Pontiac Trans Am Engineering Prototype Test Car #9723 was Built 1st week of July 1969 .As you can see in these rare B/W photos the Front seats are very unique,as well as the rear quarter has been changed. Using this one car they came up with 2 different body designs factoring in cost vs production time. The b/w of the drivers side show wind splits that ran length of the car and were rivoted to the car .Evidence of this can be seen by looking inside the fenders, door, and rear quarter some of the rivots are still in place. The car has some very unique GM parts and part#'s. The leather interior boasts High Backet Bucket Racing Seats with GM # 8738440. These seats with GM# 8738440 appear in a GM Catalog dated July 1969, with a denotation * New Part Initial Catalog , This interior and seats are the only known type in existence even though the GM Catalog shows them as a new part they were never put into production. The dual snorkel aircleaner is also unique and bears a unique GM#. Another unique item is prototype Teneco part #78740 Monroe Max Air Shocks Race suspension .Verified by Teneco Monroe as the 40th pair of Max Air shocks produced by Monroe (7) 1968 (8) July (7) unit #40(40); (78740). The steering wheel is also a prototype for future formula wheels .Made in Italy by Person`al of Italy, This wheel is 1 of 3 known to exist .The others in Existence appear on a 1968 Ferrari and 1969 Porsche Speedster. The Engine is a preproduction 455 H.O. ; The term High Output was chosen over Ram Air due to California's tightening emissions control. Since the majority of the nations auto sales would occur in California ,It makes complete sense why the big automaker tailored to the states regulations. The engine is a W.S. engine code , with a 9790071 casting, #16 Heads. The vin on the engine consists of only 5 characters- 28Z11 Since this problem was never planned upon, and arose during the middle of 1969. Pontiac did not plan to design this car until GM made them aware of Fischer Body delays due to rear quarter dies cracking. Theres been alot of misinformation published by a individual who once sold a clone of my car and then tried to swindle my car from me when he saw my car for sale online. I have to thank this individual in a sense because if it wasnt for his fraudulent buyers tactics I never would have been aware of the true value of my car. After feeling something strange about his persistence to swindle out of my car ,I was able to due further research and I found a article he wrote about my car and I immediately took the car off the market. This car is a part of GM history and the last great Super Muscle Cars to exist .
