5 Iconic Movies That Feature The Dodge Charger
The Dodge Charger may not have been the bestselling vehicle of the classic musclecar era, but it sure made up for it in TV and film.
Here are five of the most iconic appearances of the Dodge Charger in TV or film.
1968 Dodge Charger R/T In Bullitt.
The car chase scene between Bill Hickman’s Dodge Charger 440 and Steve McQueen’s Mustang Bullitt, is probably one of the most famous.
Ran through the streets of San Francisco, all you hear are roaring engines and the sounds of the chase itself. No dramatic music, just a pure car chase.
In reality, the Charger could easily beat the Mustang and the Charger was given thinner wheels to slow it down when the scene was shot.
1970 Dodge Challenger in Vanishing Point
The original movie and the TV movie of 1997 feature a chase with a 1968 Dodge Charger. Mopar vs. Mopar.
1969 Dodge Charger In Grindhouse Death Proof, 2007
Recreating some of the classic car scenes of the 70s, Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof has a 1969 Black Dodge Charger battling a white Dodge Challenger reminiscent of Vanishing point.
It’s a great scene as you can see below, but we recommend you watch the whole movie, simply because you just can’t beat a Mopar car chase or a Tarantino movie.
1970 Dodge Charger R/T The Fast And The Furious
Love it or hate it, The Fast And The Furious franchise has done a lot to increase the profile of American muscle cars.
Various Dodge Chargers, we use throughout the filming, showing Vin Diesel and Paul Walker put up high-tech Japanese engineering against raw power American muscle.
1969 Dodge Charger: Dukes Of Hazard
The ‘General Lee’ 1969 Dodge Charger has turned into a controversial figure of late, mainly due to the Confederate flag, but if you were a child of the time the TV show was Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke and their 1969 Dodge Charger and that’s all we saw back then. Controversies aside, the General Lee is still as a recognisable today as ever.
Apparently, 320 Dodge Chargers were used throughout the whole series, some still surviving, but it made the 1969 Dodge Charger iconic throughout the world.
