3D Print A Muscle Car??
3D Print A Muscle Car??
It had to happen sooner or later. A 3-D printed car fully roadworthy.
Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy produced an electric powered Acey Cobra replica from 3-D printed parts.
“It’s printed in about six pieces – there’s one piece that’s the core chassis and mechanical structure. And the front end and the back end of the body were each produced in a couple of pieces that were joined to each other and then bolted on to the chassis,” said Robert Ivester of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office.
The car is powered by a full electric engine and can reach 128 km an hour, with a 0-100 kmh speed of eight seconds.
The point of the projects was to prove that an automotive scale mould can be printed in 48 hours rather than months with a metal block.
