The 2018 Dodge Demon Is NOT Banned From The Dragstrip
By Dave Ashton
The 2018 Dodge Demon was dropped onto the world with its 840hp mother load at the New York Auto Show this week, with firsts in many categories. Fastest production car, first production car to pull a wheelie, etc. but one of the main talking points is it being banned from National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).
This obviously seems strange for a vehicle optimized for the drag strip and needed clarification. According to Scott Smith of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), ‘You can bring a Dodge Demon to an NHRA track, but if you run under that 10-second barrier, they’re going to require that you meet the safety standards.”You can bring the car to any NHRA member track and go out, it’s only once you hit below that 10-second number that they’d talk to you about the ‘cage’.’You’d also need fire clothing (jacket and pants) and a Level 6 competition license at that point.’
This means that the Dodge Demon is not banned from the drag strip. It only has to follow the same rules as everybody else if it ventures into the nine second territory. This means in race tuned mode the Dodge Demon would need the full roll cage, door bars and the safety precautions. Running on plain pump gas will get you in the 10s all day long. very impressive from a car straight from the factory.
So, ‘banned’ is completely off the mark for the Dodge Demon. Buy one and you can race it all day long.
