2017 Chevrolet Camaro Vs. 2017 Ford Mustang: Muscle Cars Battle
By Dave Ashton
For over 40 years the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro have locked horns over which is the best muscle/pony car. The 2017 models from both players are fantastic vehicles with similar performance and pricing, but which one comes out on top if any?
Even though the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro is now more sports car than muscle/pony car, it still has its heritage in this realm, along with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro comes in a 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, 1LT and ZL1 for 2017, a Redline Edition a Camaro ‘Fifty’ limited-edition if you can get hold of one. Engine types move from a 2 L turbo four-cylinder up to a V8. You can find the full Camaro specs on the Chevrolet website here.
Ford are similar with a baseline turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the base model, moving up to a V8 for the top model. No V6 for 2017. The GT and GT350 are still the top favorites. A full rundown of the models and specifications are on the Ford website.
Styling wise the Mustang still has a vintage flow and keeps things simple, while the Camaro has arguably more style with a menacing look to compete more with the modern sports car brigade. Both being performance vehicles, don’t expect much from the rear seating or the trunk, but that’s not really the point here.
Feature wise, they are both reasonably priced, with decent equipment and technology, but the Camaro SS model probably has the edge. When you factor in its performance. The Camaro has the most power of the two, but the Mustang has the better base price at $24,915.
If you read many reviews on both vehicles you will find that they both have their pros and cons, but in many ways are similarly matched. This means that it’s down to if you want something that is more muscle car as in the Mustang or more sports car as in the Camaro. Both are great performance machines for the money from the base model up to the SS or GT350.
This means that there isn’t any clear cut winner between the Mustang or Camaro and there possibly never will be, as much of the choices are down to which camp you are in when it comes to the brands.
