The 1st Ever Chevrolet Corvette Built 63 Years Ago Today
Would you believe that 63 years ago today, on June 30, 1953, the first Chevrolet Corvette was produced in Flint, Michigan, making it one of the most popular sports cars ever.
It’s quite incredible to think that through all the years of different vehicles that have come and gone, the Corvette has stood its ground.
The first Corvettes were not the powerhouses of today. They had a 150hp I6 engine, automatic transmission, fibreglass body and if you wanted one in white, you in luck as they were all like convertibles with a black ragtop and red interior.
Production was slow in the first year, with only 300 being sold. However, by 1955 V8 engine option was introduced by engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov and the rest is history.
In 2016 the Corvette is still one of the world’s most popular sports car, so happy birthday and we’re looking forward to another 63 years.
