1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible $3.5 Million At Mecum
By Dave Ashton
I was only talking the other day in a post on if it was possible to still pick up a 1971, Plymouth Barracuda for reasonable money. Basically, not if it’s in number one condition with the rarest of options. Proving the fact is this 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible which has just recently sold at Mecum auctions for a cool $3.5 million.
Why $3.5 million? Well, it ticks all the boxes for everything you would want in a super rare vintage muscle car. Hemi V8 engine, 1 of 1 with its rare options, numbers matching powertrain with four-speed transmission and of course in amazing condition. Originally two of these were made and one no longer exists.
Clearly, everybody bidding knew the worth of this Cuda with bidding starting almost immediately $400,000 and hitting $2.5 million within a minute. The reserve price was set at $3.5 million as soon as the price is reached, the hammer fell. The question now is will we see a $4 million muscle car cross the auction block in the next year or two?
