1970 Pontiac GTO Barn Find
By David Ashton
The 1970 Pontiac GTO is one of the classic shapes from the muscle car era, and this one is no exception.
This car has been in the same owners hands since 1975 and has been stood still since 1999, which means you get a lot of back history with this car, along with quite a bit of restoration work ahead of you.
The motor is not original to the car, but the drivetrain is said to be numbers matching, with receipts for all engine rebuild work.
The obvious points to address here are the exterior which will need a complete restoration, but the seller seems to be upfront with the rust holes in the floors and the panels, which will give you at least some idea of the repair work needed here.
It’s unclear if that convertible ragtop is a replacement or not, but from the images it looks in reasonable condition.
The rest of the interior needs a good cleanup before it can be evaluated what needs replacing or not, but most of the stuff is here and is in reasonable condition.
The car comes with some decent options and although it needs thorough restoration, everything seems to be here parts wise and with what seems not a massive amount of welding work.
The current bid prices is at $12,600 with 4 days to go. If you consider a prime condition one of these can fetch up to and around $40,000, you have to consider if the restoration costs are worth it to get it to show condition. In the right hands, this car should at least be brought back to be a regular driver with a muscle car as cool as this one.
