1970 Plymouth Superbird, 1 of 308 Goes To Auction
By Dave Ashton
The Plymouth Superbird was one of the standout rarities of the muscle car era and although it wasn’t a major hit of the time, they stand today as one of the greats originally built for NASCAR racing. They weren’t produced in great numbers to start with, with some saying that up to 2,783 were produced, but most likely around 1,935, with the 135 being 426ci. Hemis. The majority being 440ci. 4bbl V8s.
This example is in concours condition with a 440/390 HP 6 BBL V8 engine with 66,000 miles and a A833 4-speed transmission running to a 3.54 Dana rear end. The car is dressed in B5 Blue with an immaculate white interior and includes the original Fender tag. Being just 1 of 308 with these options, the car should fetch a healthy amount, especially in this condition.
The car will be auctioned at Mecum, Houston om April 5-7th 2018.
