The 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Paint Chip That Never Existed?
Written By David Ashton
As the years go by, we all hear about rare optioned muscle cars, those which now fetch the highest prices and the more sought-after.
But what happens when there is an option which was never made? Maybe someone in the future may want to recreate it?
this was the case with Tim Wellborn famed for the Wellborn Muscle Car Museum in Alexander City, Alabama.
The option in question is from the Rapid Transit System brochure, which caught Tim’s eye after first spotted it as a kid. this was a one-of-a-kind striped paint scheme. After some research, Tim found out that version was never produced, so it’s time to make one himself.
They founded a donor 1970 ‘Cuda with all the right parts which was taken to The Bomb Factory’s resto shop in New Orleans. Charles Handler and Trey Hansen with the guys to do the work, which will be shown on the History Channels Big Easy Motors.
As the donor car was in such good condition, lengths were taken to make sure that the car could be returned to its factory state is needed in the future.
The application of the 25 colors was done firstly with a plastic body wrap, used as a base coat layer. BASF and the RM brand Painter is used with black tape stripes to break up the colors.
Very few other options up needed to make it just like the original in the brochure, like the Shaker hood, which accompanied the 383 V8, four-speed transmission and pistol grip shifter.
The car is intended to be shown at this years SEMA show.
