If you go back to the 1980s, you couldn’t even give a car away like this 1966 Plymouth Satellite. Now, any vehicle that even sniffs of having an original Hemi engine gets attention and rightly so. This example, although very rough has loads of potential and in prime condition can be easily worth twice its asking price. It’s also got the benefit of very low mileage, which will help its end asking price.
The car is said to have been in storage since 1978, but from the amounts of rust on the underside and surface rust on the exterior, the place it was kept sure had a few leaky holes in the roof. At least on a periphery view, the car looks relatively solid and hopefully most of the rust is superficial. The plus part is that all the original parts are here, with can headers and moroso oil pan tow tabs.
Take away how rough the interior floors look, everything in the interior is there and clearly needs a good clean up. The engine is currently not running, but in this sort of state it will need completely stripping down anyway. If it’s going to be brought back to its original condition. The car still has its original inspection sticker from 1968.
It’s going to cost a lot to get this car back to its original condition, but with a Hagerty estimate of a #2 excellent condition being nearly $100,000 for a Hemi version, the investment could be worth it. Only 817 were originally built with this engine. Originally producing 425HP @ 5000rpm and a 1/4 mile time of 13.8 seconds @ 104mph with a compression ratio of 10.25:1, it’s definitely a muscle car classic.
