Readers Rides
1964 Impala SS By Curt Guy
This readers ride submission by Curt Guy, is more like how it used to be, rather than what a vehicle is like today.
Keeping a vehicle in good order from a long period of time isn’t just about maintaining an object, but building landmark memories along the way.
Keep it long enough and it almost becomes part of the family, no matter how long you have owned the car.
The Lady in the image being Curt’s wife, we think claiming initial ownership!
‘Here is my 1964 Impala SS with original motor. It was a 283 2 bbl power glide trans.
‘My uncle worked with the guy that bought it new in 1964. When the 65’s came out, my uncle followed the guy to the dealership and when it was traded, he grabbed it.
My aunt drove it every day until 1973. She wanted a/c in her car so my dad bought it for $325 bucks!
My dad drove it every day till 1977, when it became my 16th birthday present.
After i got it I replaced the 283 with a 327/365 motor, mild street cam. and camel back heads headers. I added a turbo 350 with a b&m shift kit hurst auto stick and a 456 pos rear.
I had a 308 rear to pop in when i took highway trips.
I had a lot of different wheel and tire combos on it over the next ten years as you can see from the pictures.
The interior was black leather with buckets and a console.’
