The Chevrolet Impala: The Icon Of Rap And Hip Hop
Rap and Hip Hop go hand in hand with the Chevy Impala. A ‘six-four’ or ‘Six-deuce’ are the usual ones to go for, but any early sixties model can get the point across.
Artists like Snoop, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube gave the wider masses a look into this prized mobile, promoting a lowered look to most of the cars and a sense of cool no other music genre can bestow on a car.
The Chevy impala had features that lent itself to style and cool. The cool Ragtop was an option. Most of these cars were bought as hard tops and were used as everyday cars. I recall more four doors than two doors but maybe my brain is fuzzy on that. A convertible, great color combinations and the long, sleek look make them special.
You and I just need to sit down, close our eyes and picture ourselves cruising down any street anywhere on a summers day. With that top down you have unlimited head and leg room.
Most of these cars had the standard small block V8 engine to take you down any road. But, I have seen these as “sleepers” with the 427 engine and that is a game changer.
The big trunk, big hood, big doors and of course the big engines.
This is one of the reasons for its popularity. A big, muscular car and one that has a name that would rhyme well, balla”, “holla”, “dolla”, “shot-calla”, “folla.”
