Muscle Cars
The Old Reliable Chevrolet
By Mark Weisseg
I am still amazed at how many ’55 and ’56 Chevrolet’s I see on the road. Some owners have taken some liberties with the engine, tires and brakes and I cannot blame them.
If you had the weak but reliable six slapper under the hood, you too would want more power. More power means you need better brakes and tires. It goes hand in hand. I always loved these two years. They are cool classics but still have some room inside.
I see guys driving ’53 to ’62 Corvettes and they look like they are in pain. I guess they are with that huge steering wheel stuck in there chest.
This car as pictured is the best of both worlds. A cruiser that is easy enough to drive. If you want some power, that is easy enough to obtain as well. Great seating, big trunk, lots of power options and this car is a winner. I love the two tone paint schemes and the simplistic design of the car. Obviously the following year in 1957 things really got heated up. But, for now I never just walk right past one of these cars. They are too special.
So, check out one of these classics if you are in the market for a cool cruiser.
