The Winged muscle cars of 1969 – 1970 are now some of the rarest of the muscle car era. The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona and the 1970 Plymouth Superbird are iconic vehicles which now fetch very high prices, but that wasn’t always the case.

Having only a year of production and such an extreme body styling wasn’t to everyone’s taste at the time. Many were left unsold and their worth didn’t become apparent until years after. One of the standout drivers of the time, Richard Petty who had recently moved over to Ford was lured back to Plymouth with the now Petty blue 43 Plymouth Superbird, but even these got lost to the mists of time.

One of these was found again by Todd Werner who recognised its NASCAR status and subsequently found out it to be a Petty Superbird. It was taken to Petty Enterprises who helped restore the Superbird back to its 1970 condition as you can see in the video below.

Its basic and stock 426cu. Hemi V8 configuration works just as well today as they did in the past, so check out the video below to get an idea of how these winged aero warriors took on the best back in the day.
