Building A Roots Supercharger

By  |

Although turbos are becoming more of a mainstay to increase the power in an engine, a supercharger/blower still has its advantages. The Roots blower is one of the oldest designs, being originally used with blast furnaces and still serves as a great way to increase the power in an engine.

In this video we see a Weiand 6-71 blower being built from the ground up, then a quick test on the dyno. The video serves as a nice overview of how a blower is constructed and a nice starting point if you want to research further. The supercharger itself works by blasting the air around the outside of the casing, then into the intake manifold to boost power. Simple, effective and looks much cooler poking through the hood than a turbo.

For instant performance and that iconic Hot Rod look, you cannot really better the good old supercharger.
