The Buick Grand National came along at the time in the 1980s when the muscle car was arguably at its lowest point. With the introduction of the limited-edition GNX (Grand National Experimental) the car suddenly became quicker than most of its contemporaries such as a C4 Corvette. Build years were from 1982 to 1987.

Originally fitted with a 3.8 L turbocharged V-6 engine with 200hp, the car had minor upgrades over the years until 1986 when it gained 235 hp and 330 pound-feet of torque, with a quarter-mile time of 14 seconds. That was better than the Mustang, Camaro and Firebird of the time.

In its final year of 1987 Buick gave 547 Grand Nationals the McLaren treatment, which boosted everything to 276 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque. This video will give you a complete lowdown of why car this car is so revered today.
