The Monkeemobile at Wind Gap Borough Park

‘Hey, hey it’s the Monkeys!’

This is one big nostalgia trip for me seeing this ride, but I forgot how surreal the Monkeemobile really is.
If you gave a Pontiac GTO to Salvador Dali, this is probably what he would have come up with.
The ride will be shown at the annual Cruise to the Gap car show Sunday, May 17, at Wind Gap Borough Park.

Created by custom-car designer Dean Jeffries for Universal Studios, the Monkeemobile was built for The Monkees and their off-the-wall 1960s sitcom.

Jeffries took a stock 1966 Pontiac GTO muscle car and stretched it into an almost dune-buggy-like caricature.

A third row of seats was added to the outlandish “Goat” along with a convertible top that runs from the split windshield to the rear deck.

The fenders were flared and the car’s nose was elongated like that of a shark. Headers protrude through the engine bay past the front wheels.

A dragster-type parachute was affixed to the rear to complete the GTO’s flamboyance.

Sponsored by the Wind Gap Area Athletic Association, the rain-or-shine antique, classic and custom car show also will feature DJ music, food, crafts and children’s activities.

The Monkeemobile’s appearance is sponsored by Wind Gap Chevrolet-Buick.

“The Monkeemobile is weather permitting,” says Borger, “due to the outdoor event and the Monkeemobile being an open-air car.”
