The Strange Chevrolet Vega “Cutaway” Commercial

The Chevrolet Vega could have been the small car in the early 1970s, but GM wanted to produce them faster than a McDonald’s at peak time, which was its ultimate downfall. The car had initially good reports, but the run of cars coming out of Lordstown, Ohio didn’t fulfill expectations. The ad. was first shown on New Year’s Day 1972.

No matter what happens to the car in general, this commercial is a unique look not only into how cars were advertised back in the day, but the strange cross-section look into a car and its features. Oddly enough the big holes in the demonstration car in the commercial happened to a lot of Vegas over the years, but that doesn’t detract from the unique way the Vega is presented in the commercial.
