Muscle Car Talk: How We Used To Work.

This picture should remind you of all the regulations, laws, rights and safety gear we live with today. Safety shoes, ear protection, eye protection, hard hats, lock out, tag out, and on and on.
So many rules, so many authorities to live under and be concerned about, especially with health and safety. However, today’s environment of over safety is better than the working conditions of the poor guy in this picture.

For most of us all you need to do is look at this picture. Is this safe? Heck no. It looks almost funny today to see a mechanic working on a car that is chained to a block and tackle but in the real world it was potentially dangerous.
I speak from experience. When I was younger there were no safety measures in place. No such thing as safety glasses, hearing protection or hard hats. The result? Life changing injuries. I was the unlucky guy that at times had to call a wife or mother and explain I was at the hospital with there son or husband.

Back in the old makeshift days, scenes like this may seem like a quick and easy way to get the job done, but in the long term, not so much.

It costs more than just the injury costs but time off, productivity and more. We finally learned to work smarter and not harder. It took forever to beat safety into our heads and it was too late for some but I for one am plenty happy that safety is finally the most important job of the job.
