Insanely loud Olympia Charger from 1976

If you’ve been up close and personal to an old school V8 going through the rev range, you’ll appreciate the sheer decibel level the thing can produce. This 1976 Olympia Charger Nascar racer gives you a little insight into the noise this engine can produce along with a few tasty laps.

The 426 Hemi V8 engine had an official rating of 425hp at 5000rpm, but in reality was more like 491hp and 493 ft lbs of torque. Quite impressive, even for today’s standards. the unmistakable deep, throated gurgle of an American V8 engine is a bit like listening to a world-class tenor like Pavarotti. There are arguably equally as good singers out there, but only a few with those naturally deep overtones, just like the American V8.
