The Equus Bass 770 may not be the most commonly known muscle car, but if you want a vehicle that encompasses all the best elements from the classic era with modern features, this may be the vehicle for you.

The big three of Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford all produce their own classics, but if you want a production vehicle with classic muscle car styling with everything the modern muscle car has to offer, the Equus may be the closest you can get. The Equus Bass 770 gives the same body styling as a 67 to 68 Ford Mustang with the front end and tailgates of a Dodge Challenger with the engine power of a chevy 6.3 Liter LS9 V8. Basically, if a classic Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge had a love child, this probably would be it. This may be heresy to some, but taking the best features from everywhere is always a good thing.

However, the Equus isn’t a mass produced vehicle, but something that takes over 5000 man-hours to produce with a lightweight aluminum body and plenty of custom features if you need them. The engine comes in the form of a LS9 Supercharged 6.2 Liter V8 delivering 640 HP at 6500 rpm and 605 lb.-ft. at 3800 rpm, with a 0-60mph time of 3.4 seconds, through a six speed rear-mounted dual clutch transmission. You get six piston Brembo brakes attached to 255/40 Zr19 front and 285/40 Zr19 rear Michelin Pilot Sport tires, magnetic ride shock absorbers and an interior that has modern styling with vintage dash.

Modern features also encompass electronic traction control, antilock brakes, tire pressure monitoring, dual-zone climate control, 7-inch infotainment display, Dual Zone air conditioning system and tire pressure monitor. Essentially, a vehicle that will be the nearest you can get to a vintage muscle car styling with the best of the modern world.

For a vehicle that takes up around 5000 man-hours will cost you $534,000 with a totally bespoke vehicle starting from $100,000. Not a cheap proposition, but it’s probably the nearest you will get to a modern interpretation of the best of the muscle car era with the best the modern world can offer.

Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford all produce modern versions of their classics, arguably the best of modern muscle cars. You could also include Aussie vehicles in the mix with Holden, producing some fantastic powerful muscle machines, but there still is a want for that classic muscle car styling wrapped around modern features. This is where the Equus Bass fills the gap.
