Ford have recently released teasing images of a new 2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 which is said to have 700+ HP and a 200mph top speed, the most power from any Ford production vehicle. You can check out the teaser video below. So, it will be only fitting to try compare the original from 1967 to the last production version in 2014. Not really as a comparison or head-to-head, but rather as a timeline of where the future GT 500 may be going. Obviously, both vehicles are worlds apart in build and styling and this post is really just to show you, those differences, along with the prices of each vehicle.

This 1967 Shelby GT500 is currently being listed on Auto Trader for an eye watering $299,900. The specs are as below –

Engine: 428ci V8
Transmission: 4-Speed T-10 Top Loader Manual

The engine is the 428ci.(7.0L) V8, dual 4 barrel 600 CFM Hollys and can produce 355Hp, with 2x4V, 10.5:1 ratio and 420 lb·ft (570 N·m) at 3200 rpm of torque. It has the definitive Mustang fastback design and looks fantastic in red. Around 2,048 were produced in ’67. The car seems to come with a folders worth of paperwork and as you would expect for this sort of money the car is spotless throughout.

The 2014 version is clearly a modern Mustang with everything we expect from a modern vehicle from comfort, power and accessories. The engine is a supercharged 5.8L V8 producing 662 HP at 6250 RPM, almost double the power of its original incarnation.

Comparing any vehicle from 1967 to the modern day is an unfair comparison, but it does show the leaps the car has taken over the years and the possible future direction the car will take. The next iteration of the GT500 should hopefully compete with the power of Dodge’s 707-hp Challenger SRT Hellcat and Chevy’s 650-hp Camaro ZL1, so in this respect the big three battling it out in the horsepower wars hasn’t changed since the late 60s. Lets just hope this forever continues so the GT500 is pushed to greater heights.
