1958 Chrysler Imperial D`Elegance
The Chrysler Imperial D`Elegance was produced as a concept vehicle which style features eventually morphed into other cars from the line, such as the Valiant and later Imperials.
The car was designed by Virgil Exner and marketed by Chrysler as ‘The Finest Car America Has Yet Produced.’ This was obviously to compete against the other luxury makes of the time such as Packard and Cadillac.
As with most concept cars, they are a start point for design and engineering ideas for future models and such was the Imperial D`Elegance.
The sloping trunk profile eventually landed on the 1960 Valiant. The fins, suspended lighting and dashboard were more or less the same on the 61 to 63 Imperial and the taillight pods appeared on the 1962 Dodge.
Models such as the custom, LeBaron and crowned Imperial by Ghia borrowed some of the D`Elegance ideas and concepts.
The concept car itself had some unusual features such as the flush door handles, hidden headlights and squared off steering wheel.

Compression Ratio : 10.00:1
Brake Horsepower : 345 at 4600 rpm

Carburetor – Carter four-barrel Model AFB-2651S
Transmission –
Torqueflite automatic transmission with pushbutton shift controls was standard.
In 1967, 17,620 Impericals were produced.
